Sports and News Links – August 7, 2010


There are several interesting stories that didn’t get top billing on the front pages this week. So here are some stories that are interesting and hopefully give you some talking points with friends and family this weekend.

Indianola High Indians

-A new prep website, Iowa Prep Fanatic, was launched at the start of this month.  Josh Loeffelholz reports that Indianola High School is considering leaving Class 4-A and the CIML for Class 3-A and the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Bill Finley of the NY Times files this great story about how a horse trainer, trying to find himself after the death of his wife, finds hope and inspiration in a horse with ailments.

Tony Botello of the popular KC Confidential website writes that regardless on how successful the Tea Party or grassroots campaigns are, most people are too poor for politics and a single vote doesn’t count anymore.

KARE TV-11 of Minneapolis files a video report from Fairmont, MN on how two Fairmount P.D. officers saved two girls from a lake.  One of the officers is fellow friend and Wartburg classmate Jamie Bleess, who is running for Sheriff.

Susan G. Komen Foundation

-Local patent attorney Brett Trout (BlawgIT) blogs about how the Susan G. Komen Foundation is directing some of their funding to protect trademark rights.  He also discloses the amount of money that the Komen Foundation has raised.
